Qiliho Urges Parents: Monitor Children As Juvenile Arrests Increase

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho has urged parents to closely monitor the whereabouts of their children as Police continue its COVID-19 operations around the country.
This follows an increase in juvenile arrests over the past week on breaches of social gathering and curfew restrictions.
Brigadier-General Qiliho said: “The responsibility of parents is to know where their children are while a number of restrictions continue to be in place.
“It’s a difficult task and it’s not so good that juveniles are now being arrested from the streets because they are where they are not supposed to be.
“The first question we ask is where their parents are and what they were doing.”
He said parents needed to keep advising their children on the restrictions in place.
“There has been enough information in the media and it’s down to the people to take heed of this advice.”
Brigadier-General Qiliho reiterated that the Police would not ease operations with the relaxing of some of the COVID-19 restrictions.
“We know that a lot of people are without jobs and there are some social issues that we are being alerted with from communities. We will continue to do our job and we will not rest.”
