FRU Plans On Date To Start ‘20 Season

The Fiji Rugby Union is contemplating of starting the 2020 season in late June.
FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said this would only go ahead if Government lifts all restrictions and allows schools to resume classes by June 15.
“If that happens then we’ll start our rugby season if not then we’ll have to wait until all clear is given by government,” he said.
A circular has been sent to all affiliated unions on the issue.
The FRU sanctioned competitions are the Skipper Cup Premiership, Vodafone Vanua Championship and the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy Challenge.
JULY TESTS
Meanwhile, O’Connor confirmed that they are working closely with World Rugby on whether the July Test matches would go ahead.
He pointed out that the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians under new head coach Vern Cotter was scheduled to play Pacific neighbours Tonga and Samoa before taking on the Australian Wallabies on July 18.
The Test clash will be played at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, Queensland.
