A capping ceremony for a total of 97 newly recruited nurses was held in Beijing on April 26.

The ceremony was also held to mark the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing, as well as the upcoming International Nurses Day.

Regarded as the founder of modern nursing, Nightingale came to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organised care for wounded soldiers.

She revolutionised nursing while suffering physical illness during the later years of life and established the world’s first professional nurse training school in the St. Thomas’ Hospital in 1860.
