Floodwaters yesterday shut off bus services into Muavuso Road and Waiqanake Village in Rewa.

Villagers were forced to walk into Muavuso, Nabaka, Waiqanake and Namakala village from the main road.

Hundreds were stranded yesterday as some waited for the water to recede the rain to subside.

According to residents, it rained heavily for more than an hour.

Waiqanake resident Tailaiasi Turagaduadua, 56, said passengers were forced to get off at the main road as bus drivers refused to drive through floodwaters.

He said the this was a common occurrence during torrential downpour, and could be avoided by making the waterways deeper.

He hoped the authorities concerned would look into this as this affected hundreds of families living in the area and who used the roads.

Mr Turagaduadua said it was a good thing children were at home.
