A 22-year-old accused of the Domain robbery will be medically examined after he claimed that he was assaulted by Police.

Jone Delai is charged with one count of aggravated robbery and appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara.

It is alleged that Delai with others on April 25, at Domain in Suva, robbed a woman of her handbag containing $300 cash, American and Japanese visa card, assorted cards and a gold Samsung mobile phone valued at $380.

The duty solicitor from the Legal Aid Commission, Shantel Hazelman told the court that Delai, had claimed assault on his right knee by the Police officers while he was in custody at the Police Station.

Police prosecutor Constable Volau Yalimaiwai served Delai with a full phase of disclosures.

Magistrate Liyanage also transferred the matter to the High Court stating that the matter was an indictable offence and also gave 21 days to Delai to file an alibi notice if he wished.

Delai was ordered to make a formal bail application at the High Court. The case will be called for at the High Court on May 15.

Meanwhile, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Delai’s accomplices, the driver of the getaway vehicle, was apprehended yesterday morning in Wailekutu while the third suspect, who was known to Police, was still at large.
