Cup cakes for groceries.

That is the deal Vasenai Lauta, 41, has come up with to help villagers of Matanuku Village in Kadavu.

She is part of the Na i Nuinui Trust and she is collecting groceries and food items, which she hopes to take to Kadavu.

Ms Lauta said she was inspired by people bartering on social media so she came up with the initiative to give a dozen cupcakes for some groceries which she could give to villagers affected by Tropical Cyclone Harold.

“For the first drive which was last Saturday, I baked 33 dozens and for the drive today (Tuesday) I baked 30 dozens,” she said.

“Some people are really coming for cupcakes and some just want to donate. Over the two days we have held the drive, we have seen, the real spirit of giving from people.

Ms Lauta aimed to give food packs to 50 villagers, a target, which still needed some more donations.

She and two others are planning a trip to Kadavu in a week’s time and are slowly collecting money for the trip.

Ms Lauta said the drive was made possible with the help of Cost-U-Less who allowed them to use their space.
