Nawaikula’s Ill-Thought-Out Statements Should Be An Eye Opener To Voters
Opposition MP Niko Nawaikula.

Early this year Fiji was already grappling with the global economic downturn.

This situation was worsened by the global pandemic – Coronavirus COVID-19.

As we were still figuring out how long we would feel the economic impact of the worldwide shut down, we were hit by Tropical Cyclone Harold.

Now, for this entire week, we have seen relentless rain, back to back flooding, washing away farms, destroying crops.

All this will have devastating effects on our economy and the livelihoods of Fijians.

What now?

We have been lucky that our good international friends have lent a helping hand.

But, we also have people like Niko Nawaikula who are actively urging international agencies and countries not to help Fiji.

In a bid to hurt this Government, SODELPA’s Nawaikula is willing to put the lives and livelihoods of Fijians at stake.

While the entire country is struggling, uncertain about many things, we have a SODELPA Member of Parliament urging agencies such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank not to give funds to Fiji.

These funds are given to help Fijians, it is given to Government to fund rehabilitation projects, to help rebuild their homes and future.

One would think SODELPA has enough problems on their plates.

Why isn’t Nawaikula telling SODELA financiers not to fund the political party till they can get their own house in order after all, allegations of vote tampering are very serious and should be a cause of concern for SODELPA financiers?

Why isn’t Nawaikula telling his financiers that their in-fighting has become so bad that the different factions within the party are now squabbling over who the next party leader would be?

Nawaikula is plain wrong to put out a statement urging countries and agencies to stop helping Fiji and Fijians in our bid to rebuild our lives.

Perhaps the voters need to take note of such ill-thought-out statements.
