The Malaysian-registered yacht was on its way to Fiji from Tuvalu when it encountered problems. It had lost its ability to steer after damaging its rudder, autopilot and sail a few days ago.

Only one passenger, a 59-year-old Singaporean national, was on board.

Fiji Navy Fleet Operations Officer, Lieutenant Commander Timoci Natuva, said the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Naval Division worked with border agencies including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Singapore Government in the search and rescue operation.
