COVID-19: Father Reunites With Family, Seeks Help

A father of two is grateful to have now reunited with his wife and nine-year-old daughter after they were quarantined at the Labasa Hospital for a month.

Mohammed Rizwan’s wife was Fiji’s COVID-19 patient 11 and his daughter was patient 16.

The 29-year-old father from Soasoa, Labasa, said they got discharged over the weekend after recovering from the virus.

Mr Rizwan and his son were also quarantined for 28 days at the Labasa College facility despite testing negative of the virus. They returned to their home last week.

“My wife and daughter commended the work carried out by the medical professionals as they made every effort to get them well,” he said.

Mr Rizwan is a lorry driver for A.Khan Hire Services, a business involved with civil and maintenance works.

He said he was unemployed since February this year because of bad weather.

“My boss called me to start work already, but the Ministry of Health hasn’t given me clearance even though I completed more than 28 days,” Mr Rizwan said.

“If I resume work I can work hard to provide for my extended family.”

Mr Rizwan said his family were now looking at ways to provide for their needs. He lives with his parents, Mohammed Saheed (patient 9) and Tazma Bi (patient 14), who have also been cleared of the virus.

“I urgently need assistance because we don’t have enough food at home and we are now in the fasting period observing Ramadan,” he said.

“I am not blaming anyone; I am happy my family returned home but at the same time I need to provide food to them so that we can live to see more days together.

“My daughter is in Year 3, and soon she would have to go to school, so for that I also have to prepare.

“Also Eid, the most important celebration in our religion, is coming. I as a father, husband and son, understand the importance of preparation and this is why I am requesting for help.”

Mr Rizwan’s family can be reached on mobile number 9882798.
