COVID-19 Patient 17 Discharged On His Birthday

Fiji’s COVID-19 patient 17, Mohammed Javed Hussain, couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift then to be discharged from the Labasa Hospital on Saturday.

There to farewell him and wish him happy 22nd birthday on Sunday as he was dropped off home were doctors and nurses, who were tasked with supervising him during his 18-day quarantine period.

Mr Hussain described it as a “beautiful day” as the Labasa Hospital was cleared of COVID-19 patients.

“I was in the isolation room since April 16. To tell you the truth I was not put on any medication and not even given a Panadol.

“The staff continuously checked my body temperature and served me with good meals making sure I was recovering well.

“In one day, I prayed five times. I encouraged myself to be strong and never be disheartened. I wasn’t afraid when I was told I tested positive.”

Mr Hussain is a resident of Vunicagi settlement in Dreketi, Vanua Levu, and is the youngest of three siblings.

His message to everyone is to never be afraid.

“People say there is no cure for this virus, but I am telling you the best cure is your faith and prayer to God,” Mr Hussain said.

His father, Jakhir Hussain, said he was happy to see his son.
