The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has reached out to a family affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Macuata.

On Tuesday, the branch in the Northern Division took food pack assistance to Mohammed Imran and his family at Korovou in Labasa.

This is after reading a Fiji Sun report that the family were suffering during the COVID-19 isolation period.

The family had appealed for help after rodents ate their food while they were in quarantine.

Commission chief executive officer Joel Abraham said the arrangement was made possible through their Veilomani Food Bank.

“We have completed the first phase of food distribution where Fijian families affected by COVID-19 pandemic were assisted all around Fiji,” Mr Abraham said.

Moreover, he said the commission’s northern branch had distributed food packs to 101 households and also 400 litres of kerosene to the Soasoa residents during the lockdown.

The recipient, Mr Imran, the father of three children said many Good Samaritans had contacted him after reading his article on the Fiji Sun, assuring him of assistance.

He said thanked the FCCC and all those who had assisted his family in many ways.

Mr Imran and his family were tested negative of COVID-19 last month and have completed 28 days isolation.

However, when they returned home on April 27, they were advised by the Ministry of Health to go back to quarantine for another 14 days.
