The Russian airliner, UTA9033 flight that was alleged to have been denied entry to Fiji.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not comment on the report made by the Russian media that Fijian authorities had denied a request by a Russian airliner to land in Fiji.

The aircraft intended to land at Nadi International Airport to take home Russian nationals who were stranded in Fiji from April 27.

Permanent secretary for Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan when contacted yesterday, declined to comment on the issue.

He said: “All flights coming into the country come under Civil Aviation and not the Prime Minister’s office.”

Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary for Civil Aviation, Sharvada Sharma, when contacted yesterday requested questions to be sent by email to Principal information officer Halitesh Datt. This was done but no reply was received when this edition went to press last night.

The Russian Ministry of Communications had blogged the incident on its Telegram channel.
