Magistrate Siromi Turaga.

Magistrate Siromi Turaga’s eight-year judicial stint has not been renewed.

Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar said: “His contract came up for renewal so it wasn’t renewed on the basis of the information we have.”

Mr Turaga said he received an email from the Judiciary Services Commission on Monday and received a call from the Chief Magistrate on Tuesday.

His last day of employment was yesterday and claims there was no clear reason given not to renew it.

He said he had received his recommendation for extension in March and was due to take up a vacancy for High Court Master.

“I welcome the decision with open arms and look forward to renewing my practicing certificate to practice law again.

“I am grateful and my family is at peace, I serve a God that opens doors that are closed. My conscience is clear.”

Mr Turaga was admitted to the bar in 1999 and worked for the Attorney-General’s chambers, Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Defence and as an Advisor to the Fiji Police Force before he became a Magistrate in 2012.
