Special Administrator For Nasinu Town Council Ousted

A Special Administrator for the Nasinu Town Council has been relieved of his appointment for going beyond his role.
This was confirmed by the Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar yesterday.
Ms Kumar highlighted that the administrator had directly interfered with the council’s collective decision by issuing unwarranted instructions.
“After obtaining substantial evidence, it was revealed that the SA acted irresponsibly by making a unilateral decision on employment matter which had financial implications,” Ms Kumar said.
“The termination of the SA was with immediate effect, based on the evidence that he did not follow proper financial and staff hiring procedures as per Council requirements and the Board’s decision.”
Ms Kumar has stated the role of Special Administrators are very clear and are required to work within those rules.
“SA cannot interfere when a collective decision is made at the Council meeting.
“They are appointed to promote good governance in municipal councils and they must act ethically, professionally and be accountable for the actions taken in the interest of the councils,” she added.
