Nemani Bainivalu, accused of spreading false information on social media in relation to COVID-19, has entered a not guilty plea at the Magistrates Court in Suva.

Bainivalu, 53, charged with one count of Malicious Act, appeared before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa yesterday.

Bainivalu allegedly uploaded a malicious and misleading post on his Facebook account about COVID-19 that allegedly caused anxiety and alarm.

The court heard that Bainivalu had engaged a private lawyer, however, his counsel was not present in court.

The court further remanded Bainivalu and adjourned the matter to June 25.
