Krishna Charged For Making False Statement On Facebook

A man was produced in the Suva Magistrates Court today for an offence alleged to have been committed in relation to the 2018 General Elections.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr Vijay Krishna with one (1) count of Making a False Statement under the Political Parties Act of 2013.

It is alleged that he published false information on social networking site Facebook relating to the 2018 Elections, which he knew to be false or had no reason to believe to be true.

FICAC State Counsel Ms Josann Pene informed the Court that first phase disclosures had already been served.

Resident Magistrate Mr Joseph Daurewa released the Accused on bail and instructed him not to reoffend, to report to the FICAC office every Friday and to surrender all travel documents with a Stop Departure Order issued.

The Resident Magistrate further ordered the Accused to temporarily de-activate his social media accounts and to provide evidence of the same by 29 May 2020.

The matter was adjourned to 15 July 2020.
