The 45-year-old man alleged to have struck his wife and step-daughter with a cane knife on Tuesday morning has been remanded in custody.

The alleged incident happened in a house in Kuku.

Sanjay Lakhan is charged with two counts of act with intent to cause grievous harm and was produced in the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.

Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne told him that he was charged with an indictable offence which would be tried in the High Court.

An interim Domestic Violence Restraining Order was issued against him.

The case has been adjourned to June 3 for first call in the High Court.

He was represented by the Legal Aid Commission who is expected to file the accused’s bail application in the High Court.
