New Zealand’s Ministry of Primary Industries has sent out a notice recalling a batch of frozen camouflage grouper (kawakawa) sold at Krazy Price Mart Ltd in Christchurch. The kawakawa was imported from Fiji. The batch was recalled due to the presence of ciguatoxin, which may cause ciguatera poisoning if eaten.
“There have been reports of associated illness in New Zealand,” the Ministry tweeted. The product was available for sale between March 10 and May 21, 2020.
It was sold as an individual whole fish (gutted) and wrapped in clear plastic.
