New Market Empowers Women: Bainimarama

The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the new Rakiraki market does more than grant vendors a secure night’s sleep in clean facilities.
“It is a powerful platform for empowering Fijian women. It helps women vendors not only to start new small businesses but tap into the full potential of their ventures through on-site training and mentoring,” he said.
Rakiraki Market Vendors Association president Varanisese Maisamoa was proud to be part of a historic moment for Rakiraki.
“This is a huge boost for the whole town. After years of waiting, we are happy to have the market open.
“This will motivate and boost the town’s morale. We are grateful to Government for giving Rakiraki something to be proud of,” she said.
Mr Bainimarama held a talanoa session after the opening of the market.
Rakiraki residents highlighted issues related to and lease disputes, need for electricity and water, taxi and carrier permits.
The Ministers present were able to address the issues relating to their respective ministries. The Ministers included Premila Kumar, Faiyaz Koya, Mahendra Reddy, Parveen Bala, Ifereimi Waqainabete, Rosy Akbar, Jone Usamate, Osea Naqamu, Inia Seruiratu and Assistant Minister Veena Bhatnagar.
