The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is expected to carry out its normal disciplinary actions on two of its staff members who were arrested for breach of curfew in the Northern Division on Tuesday night.

According to Police, a doctor was among the five people arrested on Tuesday for breaching the nationwide curfew.

The 26-year-old, based in Taveuni, and a 29-year-old driver of the ministry, were arrested by Police officers from the Taveuni Police Station.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said they would also investigate the matter.

“There are procedures within the ministry about how we deal with these issues and that is what we will follow once we receive their reports,” he said.

Police confirmed that the pair were stopped at the Lesuma checkpoint and were found to be intoxicated after returning from a birthday party.

Dr Waqainabete said it was too early to comment on the disciplinary actions they would take on the two staff members.
