The Chinese Government through its Embassy in Fiji donated $10,000 to Baulevu High School in Nausori to fund the building of a new Physical Education, Music and Art and Craft (PEMAC) classroom.

The donation was handed over to school principal, Vishnu Sharma, and manager, Vijay Nath, by Li Jiabing, Director of the Chinese Embassy Political Division.

Mr Li in presenting the cheque commended the management and Baulevu High School principal for their initiatives and for their continuous support towards providing better educational facilities for Fijians.

Mr Sharma said: “The school has 260 students mostly from rural settings and they were not very much exposed to the modern facilities that other schools enjoy.”

He said even though they were deprived of such facilities, the school had fared well in sporting activities through the years.

With the construction of the PEMAC classrooms and the provision of the training facilities, the school anticipates improved performances from its rural students.

School manager Vijay Nath thanked the Chinese Ambassador, Xian Qian Bo and the Chinese government for the timely assistance.

He added that the fund would be used to complement the School Building Grant given by the Education Ministry.
