The Fiji Immigration Department held consultations with the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) yesterday with regards to the immigration policies review.

Permanent Secretary for Immigration, Yogesh Karan said the intent of the review was to provide a much more efficient service to the people with reduced time and assist them with their needs.

Eighteen members attended the forum that was held at the FCEF board room yesterday, 12 tuned in virtually.

Mr Karan said there has been some variable understanding amongst some applicants and employers and likewise with Immigration.

“So the forum opened an opportunity to talk to them and find out what their expectations were and what our policies were.

How we could reconfigure on both sides and come to a common understanding in terms of processing of their requests, so it’s been very useful.

“We have outlined the policies, the laws, got them to understand some of our policies.”

He said they also received some submissions that have come from the employers regarding their services which they would be very happy to relook at and improve the services.

“As you know, there’s no there is no such thing as a perfect system, there’s always room for improvement, and we’d like to work on that, as of immediate.”

FCEF chief executive officer Kameli Batiweti said it was a successful forum where the members highlighted some of their concerns.
