As Fijians celebrated the clearance of the last active COVID-19 cases, fake news was rife on social media about the possible closure of a Tailevu boarding school.

Minister of Education Rosy Akbar has clarified that Queen Victoria School will not close.

“This is absolutely fake news,” she said.

She said the false information was being spread by an unsuccessful applicant for the suspended SODELPA party in the 2018 general election.

Ms Akbar has advised the public not to believe in such rumors.

The fake news was posted yesterday claiming that QVS will be closed because Government had no money to pay for operational costs for running the boarding school.
