A 24-year-old woman, who bit another woman’s arm during an aggressive confrontation over a man, has been given a suspended sentence.

On June 6, 2019, Salaima Vuki assaulted a 28-year-old female.

The complainant approached her at her house to ask her about the complainant’s de facto partner who was the father of the accused’s child.

The incident happened at a village in Sigatoka.

The facts of the case revealed that on June 5 at about 11:30am the man left home for work, however on that same evening the complainant received a call from the man’s workplace that he did not turn up to work.

At about 7am the next day the complainant called her defacto partner’s phone which was answered by the accused.

The complainant then went to the accused’s house to confront her when she heard her partner’s voice inside.

After a confrontation the accused bit the complainant on her arm.

This was reported to the Police and the complainant was medically examined at the Sigatoka Hospital.

She pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and was convicted accordingly.

In mitigation her lawyer submitted that she was a first offender, was in a defacto relationship and had three children.

The accused worked as a housekeeper at a resort and was genuinely remorseful for her actions.

She sought the mercy of the court and cooperated with Police.

There were no aggravating factors recorded for the case.

She was sentenced to two months imprisonment which was suspended for one year.
