A 47-year-old woman alleged to have shared false news on Facebook was banned from publishing any controversial materials on social media.

Faith Grace appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count of malicious act.

On June 5 she is alleged to have maliciously shared fake news through her Facebook page.

She claimed that Queen Victoria School would be closed by the Government, and teachers and current students would be relocated to other schools.

Her post allegedly intended to create or foster public alarm, anxiety or disaffection.

Magistrate Wickramasekara released her on $2000 personal bail bond with two sureties, who were each bonded $2000.

Grace was ordered not to reoffend, not to interfere with Prosecution witnesses and not to change her residential address without the court’s approval.

She was also instructed to surrender her travel documents to the court.

Her case was adjourned to September 21 for plea.
