Plantation Island Resort in the Mamanuca Group plans to open up to the local market on June 26.

Resort general manager Alex Wilson said the 40 new Tavola rooms would be the only section open for the locals.

At the same time, the resort has slashed 60 per cent off the normal room price and 30 per cent off all food and beverages.

“The rooms would be available to the local people at $250 a night (normally $560 a night), with a minimum of two nights and this includes breakfast,” he said.

“Each room can take two adults and two children and all activities are complimentary.”

Mr Wilson said activities includes the kids’ water park, kayaks, paddle boards and other activities.

“Some would wonder why since the local market was had easier access to resorts on the mainland like The Pearl in Pacific Harbour, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the Coral Coast, Shangri La’s Fijian resort and Spa in Cuvu or resorts and hotels on Denarau Island.

“Hotel and resort properties on the main arterial links around the country has a huge advantage, but one would think these local tourists would love an island destination away from it all to themselves.

Different levels

“There are varying levels of choices available in Fiji, but every entity has something different to offer thus we want our local leisure shakers to come and enjoy their island experience.

“Not every Fijian was born with a coconut in their palm so to speak so here is an island for them to enjoy with their family.”

Why open the resort before borders are lifted in Fiji’s two key markets Australia & New Zealand?

”Our business is a Fijian company compared to franchisee and or international brands where they are supported by global reduction costs synergies, multi cross overs of technology capabilities, global sales, marketing facilities and premium loyalty partners points programme.

“Their brands are helping reduce operating costs, fees and working with governments on safety and security of guests and employees.

“For stand- alone small business owners their untiring efforts is to maintain sensibility of all this global influence.

“Like them we heed on taking small steps such as opening up to the domestic market with the right affordability.

“Similar instances in the Pacific or family-based communities there are local executives and or affluent locals who just want to get away for a few days.”

Mr Wilson said the resort’s aspirations were to open to local business to understand expectations of hygiene, adjusting to new expectations including local views, faceplate what was the new norm about resort holidays and more.
