FijiFirst Party Awaits Court Decision On Rohit Sharma

The FijiFirst Party is awaiting the final outcome of the alleged assault court case against Member of Parliament, Rohit Sharma, before deciding his future in the party.
Party Leader and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed this yesterday and said they would let the court proceedings take their course.
It is understood that the MP has written a letter to the party. However, the contents of the letter have not been disclosed to the media.
The 41-year-old MP was charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm early this month after he allegedly assaulted his wife on May 31, at their home in Davuilevu, Nakasi.
Strict bail conditions were imposed and a Domestic Violence Restraining Order with standard non-molestation orders were issued.
Sharma’s lawyer Jitend Reddy said the MP’s wife has recorded a second statement with Police, showing her intention to withdraw the case against him.
Mr Reddy said his office would write to Police prosecution today seeking a copy of the complainant’s second statement which would determine their position on the case.
He also said that they would make representation to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, once they have all the disclosures.
The Nasinu Magistrates Court has set the accused’s next court date for October 13, when his plea will be entered.
