Bernadette Welch Retires, Dr James Fong New Acting PS For Health And Medical Services
Vishnu Mohan, Chair of Fiji’s Public Service Commission, has officially accepted the retirement of Bernadette Welch, Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services. After serving four years in various roles across the Fijian civil service, Ms Welch will be returning home to her family in Australia.
Mr Mohan thanks Ms Welch for the many valuable contributions she has made to Fiji over the years and wishes her a long and healthy retirement.
Dr James Fong has been appointed as the new acting Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, effective immediately.
Over his more than three decades of service as a medical expert, Dr Fong most visibly worked as Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit CWM Hospital. Most recently, Dr Fong has served as the General Manager for the country’s COVID-19 Incident Management Team.
