The incoming University of the South Pacific Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific (USP) and President of Nauru, Lionel Aingimea has agreed to the Special Council Meeting scheduled for Friday.

In a letter sent yesterday to the Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the Council Winston Thompson, Mr Aingimea reminded Mr Thompson that the university is owned by the member countries.

He said USP exists for the benefit of the people and the needs and wellbeing of the South Pacific communities.

Mr Aingimea stated that members calling for a special council meeting have the right to specify the time, date, place and agenda of the meeting.

However, since Mr Thompson had arranged a meeting for Friday instead of Wednesday, Mr Aingimea agreed that the meeting should proceed as communicated.

When contacted for a comment, Mr Winston reserved his right not to comment as the issue is an internal matter.
