A 19-year-old University of the South Pacific student who was convicted and sentenced for being on a ‘date’ at Suva seawall has filed an appeal.

She is being represented in this by prominent Suva lawyer Richard Naidu of Munro Leys.

Eileen Anderson appeared before Judge Justice Vinsent Perera at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Anderson was convicted for violating social gathering orders in April this year.

She pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined $500 and ordered to pay within three months in default 50 days imprisonment.

In court yesterday, Mr Naidu requested the audio or transcript of the Magistrate Court’s records.

He made an application for the transcripts of the audio recording to be furnished to them as some of the important matters discussed in the Magistrate Court were not recorded in the Court Record at present.

He also told the court that the transcript or audio was requested to make sure that Anderson’s plea was voluntary.

Justice Perera has called for the transcripts of the audio recording to be filed and served before the next court date.

The matter has been adjourned for mention on July 22.
