Helping communities acquire durable household goods at affordable rates has been the goal for Courts in the 100 years leading up to today.

The company has aspired to enhance the livelihood of Fijians.

Courts Rodwell Road in Suva yesterday was a sea of colours when chief operating officer Hamendra Prasad and chief marketing officer Anil Senewiratne were joined by shoppers and youngsters to launch the 100th anniversary.

“Courts has been part of the community since 1920, as much as the community has been part of us,” Mr Senewiratne said.

“Our customers have been shopping with Courts for generations, as Courts was the first to introduce hire purchase to help communities acquire household goods at affordable rates to enhance their livelihood,” he said.

“During the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Courts was the only store Fijians could rely on.

“Courts is the only one stop shop that can assist you start your own business.

“The most affected sector is tourism, with Courts a chef can walk into any of our store to purchase everything he needs from baking dishes to stoves, among other appliances.

“For one who is a maintenance worker, Courts can assist him or her start their own joinery or even to start a car wash.”

Courts trading dates back to when it acquired Burns Philp Group (BPG) in 2004.

BPG commenced trading in Fiji and the Pacific in 1920.

Courts was the first to introduce the easy payment consumer finance scheme. Customers can now use the Courts app to view products, purchase, check account details.

“Courts is family, we bought all our appliances from Courts including beds, mattresses, ” one customer said.
