‘Government Adamant On Remedying Drug Problem’

The Government is putting in place practical mechanisms to effectively curb and provide medical remedies for drug addicts, Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Inia Seruiratu, said yesterday.
“The amendment to our drug legislation would give effect to this worthwhile pursuit. We need to embrace fundamental change in our mindset by empowering our youths for a brighter future,” he said.
Mr Seruiratu officiated at the UN International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka.
He said Fiji was now wrestling with the effects of hard drugs such as methamphetamine. Statistics reveal a significant increase in the use of methamphetamine from two cases in 2013 to 113 cases in 2018.
