Plantation Island Resort comes alive again as staff return to restore the island to its former glory of tropical Fijian hospitality.

The resort has never seen such a happy and excited workforce like now, said resort general manager Alex Wilson.

The reopening of the resort is in line with Tourism Fiji’s ‘Love our Locals campaign.

“They (staff) are so happy to be back at work,” he said.

Over 60 guests have booked for the weekend’s reopening, and were expected to be fretted over by the 35 staff who would be at work.

“We have local guests, mainly from Suva and some important people from Brussels, Geneva and Australia,” Mr Wilson said.

The resort’s newest accommodation block – a 40-room Tavola complex, would be the only section open this weekend.

The resort has been receiving a lot of calls after room prices were slashed by 60 per cent.

Food and beverage prices were sheared by 30 per cent off all food and beverages.

Children can access the children’s water park, kayaks and paddle boards, to name a few activities.

“There are varying levels of choices available in Fiji, but every entity has something different to offer,” Mr Wilson said.

“We want our local leisure shakers to come and enjoy their island experience.”

The first island resort to open

Plantation Island Resort is the first major resort on an outer island to open up.

Plantation Island Resort is a Fijian-owned company, Mr Wilson said.

The resort is ready to showcase the ‘new norm’ of hygiene practice.

Meanwhile, guests will also have the chance to witness restoration works on reefs.

Mr Wilson said the resort enlisted the expertise of Austin Bowden-Kirby from the University of the South Pacific on the restoration project.
