Fiji Airports chairman Geoffrey Shaw conveyed his condolences to the family of his former chief executive officer Faiz Khan.

Mr Khan died in Brisbane, Australia, on Friday, after a medical evacuation there on Thursday, after a short illness.

Burial details

His body is expected to arrive at Nadi Airport at 1:55pm today, before he is taken to his home in Lautoka.

He will be buried at the Drasa Muslim cemetary, at 7 this evening.

“Everyone at Fiji Airports mourns the loss of a man who loved and was dedicated to his nation,” Mr Shaw said.

“Faiz was an extraordinary leader who transformed Fiji Airports into the success story it is today.”

In a statement, Mr Shaw said: “Over the course of his leadership, Fiji Airports evolved to be an exemplary state-owned enterprise, achieving record breaking financial performances, and thus dividends for Government, whilst delivering complicated airport infrastructure projects for the ultimate benefit of Fiji and all Fijians.”

A testimony of his ambition

Mr Shaw said the completion of the new Nadi International Airport terminal was testimony of the massive undertaking, driven by Mr Khan.

“Along this journey, he identified and solved the many complex challenges and delivered arguably one of most technically demanding projects for Fiji, achieving international recognition and awards.”

He said Mr Khan spearheaded evolutionary development planning to improve air connectivity to Fiji’s remote islands.

“His passion was to mentor and grow his team as future leaders,” Mr Shaw said.

“A humble man and a true people’s person who encouraged those around him to grow their talent skills.

“We will all join hands to celebrate the life and legacy of this extraordinary man.”

Fiji Muslim League

A statement from the Fiji Muslim League said:

The Muslim community is deeply saddened by the passing away of Faiz Khan, son of Haji and Mrs Feroz Khan, husband of Almira Jaucinta Khan, father of Omar and Raiyn Khan, brother of Natasha Khan and grandson of Marhoom Haji Akbar of Akbar Buses of Rakiraki.

Mr Khan served as the working committee member, deputy legal advisor and member of Kamil Muslim College.

“We acknowledge his exceptional business acumen, management and leadership skills in transforming organisations into success.

“In addition to his dedication to the cause and the mission and vision of the Fiji Muslim League, he also made financial contribution to the poor and needy of our community.

“He leaves behind an inspiring legacy for us all to reflect upon and emulate.”
