As most students and teachers will slowly return to their normal routines in the classroom from this week, one particular primary school educator is ready for the new challenges the return to school will bring.

Kasiano Raibe, who is a teacher at Somolevu Catholic School in the Yasawa Group, left his Lautoka home last week to prepare himself for the school year.

He said although the students would take time to adjust themselves after being away from the classrooms since March, he was ready.

“Before the students return, I will be making more charts and teaching aids for the kids and searching the internet for educational activities,” he said.

“COVID-19 has taught me to walk an extra mile for others. Teaching is not only in the classroom, it’s acting out the deed to help you succeed.

“I have been helping families from the village barter their seafood with Lautoka city dwellers,” he said.

“I am looking forward to using the COVID-19 situation to teach kids to be kind and thoughtful and to remind them that personal hygiene is priority.”

Mr Raibe added he was also working on Maths and English subjects to keep the children’s minds active.
