Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort’s online specials are not to be missed for the fact that they’re amongst the cheapest around.

They’re also cheaper than the walk-in rates at the resort, director Brian Riches said yesterday.

The resort is offering its lowest rates yet.

While walk-in rates are around $50, online rates have been as low as $35.

The resort, once a quarry before it was turned into a botanical garden and lake, now features 22 rooms, which are divided into budget, studio and bure accommodation.

Always local

“We’ve always had local rates.

“We’ve always been for the local market,” Mr Riches said.

The Raintree Restaurant and Bar overlook the lake.

As far as possible, the resort and lake avoids the use of imported food – a decision which is reflected in its local menu.

The resort has 150 varieties of plants which Mr Riches said was more than the range at Suva Botanical Garden.

Bird watching

A book on the types of plants at the resort , and it’s use – be it medicinal, edible or poisonous, is being prepared, he said.

The resort has completed a bird watching guide, he added.

Wow effect

Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort is a forgotten place, which is so close to Suva, yet so far away, Mr Riches said.

“People drive past without realising it.

“Newcomers are wowed when they arrive.”

The resort is along Princes Road. at Colo-i-Suva.
