A woman was overwhelmed with happiness after a taxi driver returned her purse containing money she was saving for her father’s birthday.

Daiana Bola couldn’t be more thankful to Makoi taxi driver, Yogesh Prasad, who picked her and her husband up on June 19.

Ms Bola said Mr Yogesh dropped them off at Valelevu when she dropped her purse.

Money in her purse was her savings for three weeks, specifically for her father’s birthday.

“I received the call from my mum 10am on Monday, 22nd June while I was at work that my purse was returned. I was so overwhelmed with happiness when I received the news,” she said.

“I didn’t meet him when he dropped the purse because I was at work at that time. My dad received the purse from Mr Yogesh and he dropped his number to my dad.”

She said Mr Prasad refused to accept any reward.

“God answered my prayers through him and I’m forever grateful for his honesty.”

Mr Prasad said he found the purse, which contained about $65, on the floor of the back-passenger seat.

“I tried to look for a contact, but all I found was the driver’s license that belonged to her sister. I had to go to Tavua that weekend so I didn’t have time to look for the house, but when I came back on Monday, I looked for the house because I had the address,” he said.

Mr Prasad has been driving for more than 10 years. He urged current and future public service vehicle drivers not to take advantage of their passengers.
