Former Flying Fijians fly-half, Waisea Luveniyali is going to  boost Lautoka’s campaign in their Skipper Cup Premiership opener against Naitasiri on July 25.

The Kasavu, Naitasiri, native who had played for Harlequins in England has been training with the Maroons.

This was confirmed yesterday by Lautoka Rugby Union secretary, Sefanaia Scholte, who also indicated that Luveniyali is set to play for the Maroons at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

The 34-year-old played for Lautoka during their friendly match against the touring Vikings Rugby (Australia) at Nadovu Park, in March before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are also waiting for Napolioni Ratu to join the side,” Scholte said.

“We still have the core players from last year’s team including the captain, Ilaisa Leca.

“We’ve 50 players in the extended squad who are training under the watchful eyes of head coach Vereniki Tukana.”

Tukana was head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa’s assistant last year.  He has moved on to head coach after Rawaqa joined the Fiji Rugby Union’s panel of coaches.
