Fijian Missionary In China Arrested, Will Return Home

A Fijian missionary was arrested in China last month.
Marika Matanisiga and his Norwegian wife, Rakel, lived in Kunming City and served in the rural communities there.
Their home was raided by Chinese Police and they were given three days to leave China.
They are currently under quarantine in Hong Kong while waiting for a flight to return home.
Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan confirmed that Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing was handling the case.
“We can’t disclose the reason for his arrest, but it was done through protocol, we were informed about it so we had to comply with the request of the Government of China,” he said.
Mr Matanisiga had served in China for about 10 years.
It is understood that the couple were not given a deportation order, but were told to leave China.
