So much speculation and lies have been put out on social media about what our national leaders get in salaries, benefits and allowances.

The incessant chatter has come after names of the nine MPs investigated for allegations of false claims on parliamentary allowances were revealed.

From the chart displayed below it shows there is need to increase the backbenchers’ salaries to bring some parity to the salary levels.

This is before the 20 per cent pay cut for ministers and all MPs, following the announcement of the Mini Budget in March.

To correct misconceptions and set the record straight, here’s the breakdown of our national leaders’ salaries, benefits and allowances, which were last updated in 2017:
