Meet The New Rakiraki, Tavua Council CEO
Rakiraki and Tavua Council chief executive officer Sailosi Sawana.

Sailosi Sawana has been appointed the new chief executive officer for both the Rakiraki and Tavua Councils.

A man of few words said he was still tying up loose ends before his move to Rakiraki where he hopes to live with his family.

Mr Sawana is from Cautata Village with maternal links to Naselai Village, both in the Tailevu Province. The father of five children expects to start in his new position early August.

“We are looking forward to moving to Rakiraki away from the hustle of the city environment,” he said.

He is currently employed with the Ministry of Economy and has been for 10 years.

The auditor by profession said his involvement with the Ministry of Local Government has inspired him to want to help take town councils to another level.

“I was responsible for the audit of the Ministry of Local Government,” he said.

“During visits to the councils, I saw the need for visionary and strong leadership with good decision making to help elevate the council to another level.”

He added there was a need to work closely with relevant stakeholders to move the town to new heights.

“The shift will be a challenge because I’m moving to a new environment and I’m looking forward to having a positive impact on Rakiraki and Tavua Councils.”

He is very grateful to the Permanent Secretary of Local Government, Dimity Fifer and the Special Administrator chair Rakiraki and Tavua Council, Mark Hirst-Tuilau, for considering him fit for the role.

Furthermore, Mr Sawana thanked the Ministry of Economy and Internal Audit Section for the professional developments he attained over the years.

Background

Mr Sawana holds a Masters in Business Administration, from the University of the South Pacific.

He is a qualified Public Accountant with more than 25 years of progressive accounting, corporate and audit experience augmented by a strong post- secondary background in accounting, auditing and business administration.
