Minister Clarifies Housing Lot Saga

Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar clarified that household income exceeding $50,000 for those applying for a Housing Authority lot, needs ministerial approval.

To be eligible for lots and assistance, the household income should be less than $50,000.

An initial investigation by the Housing Authority of Fiji said applicants had falsified information about their incomes and assets.

Ten names of such applicants have popped up. With investigations now being handled by the Office of the Auditor-General, this list could be longer.

The Housing Authority of Fiji chair, Lorraine Seeto, announced on Wednesday that the Office of the Auditor-General would carry out a Special Purpose Audit on lot allocation for the past 10 years, and report its findings to the Board of Directors.
