Cakaubalavu Joins Rugby United New York
Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rep Apenisa Cakaubalavu has signed for Rugby United New York in the Major League Rugby.
A prominent member of Coach Gareth Baber squad, he will team up with the likes of former French international Mathieu Bastareaud in the New York –based club.
The 27-year-old from the Naroi, Moala, Lau, made his World Seven series debut at the 2017 Dubai Sevens. He played in 7s tournaments for Fiji during their title-winning 2018-19 campaign, and appeared on four stops of the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season.
Cakaubalavu’s teammates Aminiasi Tuimaba and Vilimoni Botitu have already signed to play in Top 14 competition in France.
Former 7s players playing in the MLR are Jasa Veremalua (San Diego Legion), Osea Kolinisau (Houston Saber Cats) and Josus Vici (Houston Saber Cats).
