Filimoni Vosarogo Seeks Time To File Response On Interim Practising Certificate Appeal

The Fiji Court of Appeal has given time to Suva lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo, to file his response opposing the Chief Registrar’s appeal of an interim practising certificate issued to him in 2017. The case was heard at the Fiji Court of Appeal before Judge Justice Almeida Guneratne yesterday.

Vosarogo appeared in person while lawyer, Tui Kilakila, appeared from the Legal Practitioner’s Unit (LPU).

The appeal stems from an interlocutory judgment made by the former Commissioner. It was in relation to the application of an interim Practising Certificate made by Vosarogo. The application was granted.

The Chief Registrar (CR) is appealing on the grounds that the judgment be quashed and set aside.

The grounds were also in relation to the procedural fairness of the hearing of the application and the Commissioner’s lack of consideration to the seriousness of the charges which the practitioner was facing.

Vosarogo’s practising certificate was not issued by the CR’s office where one of the reasons at the time was due to the seriousness of the charges. He told the court that he had opposed the application, and asked for time to file an affidavit in response. Justice Guneratne ordered Vosarogo to file his affidavit by July 28.
