The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) has appointed a committee to look into the Fiji Football Association’s proposed professional league set up.

OFC vice-president and Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said the proposed professional league, which was scheduled to start this year but has been delayed due to the COVID19 pandemic.

“The professional league has not been shelved. With the COVID-19 pandemic it has given us more time now. There are restrictions on travelling so there is no player movement between the countries,” he said.

“At the same time the OFC is looking into this too. They have appointed a committee to look at the professional league system in the region.

“Together we will do it and Fiji FA will be moving ahead with the professional competition to take the sport to the next level.

International friendly

Patel added that Tahiti is the first association in the region that has confirmed to tour Fiji early next year.

“We have got Tahiti which wants to play here early next year. That will all depend on the travel bubble and the Government restrictions being lifted,” he said.

“If given the all clear then Fiji FA is willing to hold matches against Tahiti here.

Punjas B.O.G

Meanwhile, Fiji FA has confirmed that Punjas will be the major sponsor for the Battle of Giants (BOG) Tournament 2020 and the pool draws will be revealed in Lautoka tomorrow.
