It was a dinner to remember for staff of the Ministry of Waterways and Environment.

It is not every day they get treated to a meal cooked by their head honchos, the Minister for Waterways and Environment Mahendra Reddy and Permanent Secretary Joshua Wycliffe.

Putting their cooking style on display, the sizzle and flavour of BBQ and chicken biryani filled the air at the ministry’s Luvuluvu Depot in Nausori last night.

For Mr Reddy and Mr Wycliffe, this was about their commitment towards leadership.

“Building his team at the ministry has required a conscious will and determination to understand his teams’ strengths and weaknesses,” said Mr Reddy about Mr Wycliffe.

“What ticks them on and what ticks them off. His first attention was to build a strong working relationship with his Permanent Secretary, establishing a mutually confident partnership and applying to an outcomes based operations at the ministry.

“At times team building has also required managing fragile egos and the demands for attention and recognition from all quarters – although unwarranted at times.”

Mr Reddy said it was a special commemoration of all the efforts put in by the teams – a humble recognition from both him and his Permanent Secretary Joshua Wycliffe.

He thanked his team for the year’s hard work and the commitment shown towards their work even during tougher times as these.

Mr Wycliffe thanked the minister for his leadership and his passion towards service delivery to the public.

He said Mr Reddy had the understanding and consideration many a time – both towards his teams and him personally.

He said he had found an unprecedented support, understanding and partnership with Mr Reddy.
