Vuda Beach Market Draws Biggest Crowd Yet

The Vuda Beach Market at First Landing Resort attracted the biggest number of vendors and a record crowd.

The market, which was mooted to allow people to sell mainly homemade and home-grown items and food, brought brisk sales by most of the 65 vendors who set up shop along the beachfront resort.

Organiser, Ronelle van Rooyen, said vendors lowered their prices because of the downturn in the economy.

“This has been a success, which we owe to the First Landing Resort, for giving us the space and their man-made island where we today have a live band performing and families enjoying lunch,” she said.

“We had F1J1 perform free while Fairyland provided bouncy castles and other amusements for the children.

Crammed

“This is the biggest crowd ever and the big car park for the resort was noticeably crammed with vehicles,” she said.

“The great thing is anyone wanting to sell here have to a reasonable entry fee, but their products must be genuinely done from home.”

Items on sale included homemade bread and jams, handicraft, food and juices.

Ongea Island sisters, Filomena and and Suli Mateiwai, were into their third market day with handicraft they had learnt to make from their parents and grandparents.

“We come from a family of artisans, so our handicraft which includes clutches, earrings and other items made from masi,” Suli Mateiwai said.

She had also imported some items from family members in Kenya.

Lawhill Wine and Fiji Coffee

Rovilyn Bugayong, was making sales with Lawhill Wine products and Fiji Coffee on behalf of Indulge.

She was also helping a group, Yeast Boys, who had made homemade French sticks and focaccia, sell their products.

Mrs van Rooyen’s South African boerewors sausage hot dog was one of the many sought after food items on sale.

The next Vuda Beach Market would be held at a date to be decided next month.
