A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters is in Labasa to assist in investigating the alleged murder of a 14-year-old student.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said no arrest had been made.

“This case has been classified as murder after the post-mortem examination was conducted last week,” she said.

Jiya Jaanvi, a Year Nine student of Labasa College, was allegedly stabbed outside of her home while hanging clothes on the line.

The victim was alone at home and her mother was away for work when the incident happened around 8pm last Wednesday in Namara, Labasa.
