Sharmila Chandra is trying to come to terms that her youngest son was killed in a road accident

Her son, Shaman Anand, died as a result, of the incident, which took place off the Queens Road near Maui Bay in Korolevu.

Ms Chandra said she had no words to describe the pain she was going through.

“This was not expected, and I am out of words,” she said.

Ms Chandra said it was a rental car involved which was driven by one of her son’s friends, who planned to go on a trip to the Western Division.

“On Monday, Shaman was travelling with four of his friends towards Lautoka when the accident happened,” she said.

The family is leaving for Labasa today with Shaman’s body.

Ms Chandra said he was in a very bad condition and all she could do was cry.

“His whole body was dislocated, and I wish I could turn things around to stop him from travelling to the west on that day,” she said.

Ms Chandra said speeding had taken her son’s life and she wanted justice for Shaman.

“He was to turn 20 next month. He was the apple of my eye. He was my everything,” she said.

The Fiji Police Force confirmed that all occupants of the accident vehicle were rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, while the driver and three others were treated and sent home.

Mr Anand’s death was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the post mortem examination was conducted yesterday. The others in the vehicle were treated at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.

The road death toll stands at 18 compared to 30 for the same period last year. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
