The Ilaisa Leca captained- Lautoka Maroons worked on improving their fitness level before today’s clash against Tailevu in the Skipper Cup Premiership.

Lautoka Rugby Union secretary Tevita Sauqaqa said that despite having the size and power they did not have the required work rate which resulted in their 29-11 loss to Naitasiri last Saturday.

“Our preparation has gone up to another level as we’ve learned a lot from the last match,” Sauqaqa said.

“We have the size and power but lacked fitness which is the key. We need to up our work rate as well.”

Sauqaqa said Lautoka’s return to the major union after five years has not erased the bitter memories of their 21-20 loss to Tailevu during the 2018 Vodafone Vanua Championship semi-final.

The loss prevented them from being promoted to the major union.

“We know what they can do on game day. We scored four tries to two but their kicking game hammered our hopes that night.

“The team is injury free and we trust our boys will deliver.”

Sauqaqa is also confident that playing at their home ground at Churchill Park is going to bring in their fans.

The match kicks-off at 3pm.
